‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 5, episode 21 preview: Kensi, Deeks, the box mystery, and a date?

It is remarkable at this point just how much mileage the “NCIS: Los Angeles” cast has managed to get out of something as simple as a box. Despite this being a part of the series now for a while, here we still find ourselves sitting around and talking about it.

For some out there, maybe the discussion about this box could be the best moment of the sneak peek below from Tuesday’s “Three Hearts.” For others, it may be the prospect of Deeks basically asking Kensi out on a date now that she’s situated back at the office and as his partner again. Did she say yes? Well, rather than giving us a firm answer, we instead had something that was straight out of the book of Annoying TV Cliches: The moment that something big is going to happen, someone comes in and interrupts.

Granted, we still think that this date is going to happen sooner rather than later. The show would be crazy not to go there at this point! You are five years in, so we don’t really see why you can make the excuse that you want to sit around and develop this further. At this point, “Castle” had already resolved their “will they or won’t they?” story, and “Bones” was at least firmly in that direction. We still view “NCIS” proper as a cautionary tale of what can happen if you wait too long to bring people together.

There are also only a few episodes left before the finale, so you better expect something before we get to that point.
