‘Dancing with the Stars’ 18: Donny Osmond to guest-judge Disney week
So we guess that “Dancing with the Stars” really is making this guest-judging thing happen ever week now? Personally, we don’t care for it, mostly because it is a weekly disruption of whatever sort of chemistry could have been there between the judges and Tom Bergeron. Aren’t they good enough when it comes to entertainment? Also, there are weird cases of unqualified people suddenly handing down scores. Most of their are too insecure in the situation to be harsh, so they give out better scores than usual.
Last week, we at least had someone with professional dance experience in Julianne Hough, and that was better than what we had with Robin Roberts. No offense to the ABC anchor, but really? All she does is interview people who are on the show.
So the choice of Donny Osmond as a guest-judge for the upcoming week’s shows is … interesting. The good news is that he is someone who at least knows a good bit about dancing as a former winner of the show, and he also is a natural entertainer. Maybe he will score based on entertainment value more than anything else.
After a non-elimination round last week to make up for the surprise double-eviction in the second episode of the show, “Dancing with the Stars” will say goodbye to a dancer Monday … which is a bummer, given that it’s Disney Week and based on our experience, that traditionally ends with some sort of “happily ever after” at the end. (The inevitable “Let It Go” dance can be predicted from a mile away.)

This show is like no other…its about entertainment. Having guest judges adds a bit of intrigue…true, many lack the dancing background that the three judges have but what a guest judge often adds is a personal element and their comments often provide toward the entertainment value of the dancers’ performances. Their scores, so far, have been very close, if not identical, to that of the three other judges so what’s the harm? Bottom line….until the semifinals…from past experiences, its all about popularity. In the end, the audience tends to get it right…with what they have left to work with! Guest judges, this week’s being Donny Osmond, their fan bases flock to see the show because they are on. A plus, plus for all…fans get to see their idols being “human”, and hopefully, hooks their fans into continuing to watch DWTS.

I like the guest judges too, breaks up the monotony of having the same judges each week that are becoming a little predictable.
