‘Silicon Valley’ episode 2 preview: The (immediate) future of Pied Piper
Is “Silicon Valley” already a great, fascinating series? Definitely, but we feel like it has a ways to go before it reaches its true potential. There were some problems littered through the first episode, whether you are talking about the all-too-frequent utterances of the show’s title or the fact that not all the characters were given that much to do.
Luckily, there was at least enough here to have us excited thoroughly for Sunday’s new episode, which focus on the efforts now of Thomas now that he has declined the opportunity to sell Pied Piper for $10 million. He had an opportunity to be set for life if he used his money carefully, and he has instead decided to walk away from it in order to work with Peter Gregory.
Well, Peter has seen some of what Thomas has been working on in the sneak-peek below, and he’s not particularly thrilled. Thomas Middleditch’s character is struggling from the business side of things, but he may also be trying still to establish his brand’s identity after stumbling upon his success. It never occurred to him before the pilot that the interest in Pied Piper would be his simplified exploration of music catalogs, but rather the way in which he managed to compress audio files while still keeping so much of their integrity intact.
Hopefully, this episode will blend together the three things we really need from this show for it to work: Solid comedy, integration into the Silicon Valley world, and characters we can at least relate to. We don’t necessarily have to like all of them … “Veep” proves that, since most of those people are awful.
