‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Light Balance is cool … but original?
We’re a lover of random talent shows, and few show that off better than “Britain’s Got Talent.” It has crazy talent, our favorite judging panel out there (mostly because David Walliams is hilarious, genuine, and everything you could ever ask for), and also pretty funny hosts and Ant & Deb.
But … does it have talent? This is what makes us worry year in and year out, since there have been years where there are only 2 or 3 acts that we would genuinely wantto pay to see in person. Last year, we had winners Attraction and also our personal spirit animal Jack Carroll; this year, we may need to add Light Balance to the mix.
We’ll start our personal critique of the preview video below with the following: The moment that we first started to watch their audition, we went “here we go again.” We’ve seen so many of these black-light acts on “America’s Got Talent” that it’s no longer that revolutionary, and yet we full expect some of the judges to go on about how it’s the most creative thing they’ve ever seen. With all of that being said, this is the best version of one of these acts we’ve seen. The timing is crisp, they do some effects we haven’t seen before, and while we’d like a little bit better music for them in the future, there is no reason to shy away from giving his group a standing ovation.
Our critique in the long-term, though, is this: How do you make this into an act that will actually last longer than a halftime show somewhere? You need more of a story, and also a hefty dose of variety. This is something we hope to see when they are inevitably in the live shows.
