‘American Idol’ top 7 spoilers: The new theme is actually awesome

The logo -Last week around this time, we moaned and complained about the fact that “American Idol” had dipped into the well of bad theme choices and pulled out something that we really did not want to see again: A 1980s week. In turn, the week was pretty terrible, and we are firmly ready and willing to blame it entirely on some of what the contestants were forced to sing.

This time around, though, things are looking much more interesting. The remaining seven contestants (per TVLine) will all perform songs from a list of six selected by their peers. Basically, it’s the contestants’ opportunity to sabotage and ruin the other hopefuls! Oh, if only something like this could happen. Could you imagine CJ Harris being forced to sing “Oops, I Did It Again,” or Jessica Meuse having to perform One Direction? It would be all sorts of hilarious for us, but the contestants themselves would probably hate it. Imagine the negative tabloid headlines!

In the end and in all seriousness, what will come out of this that is a good thing is that it will allow for some better opportunities to really learn what the musical sensibilities are of some of the contestants this season, rather than just what the producers or the judges tell them to perform. This is also interesting since it will expose the range of their knowledge beyond just their own genre. For example, how much does Dexter Roberts really know about pop, rock rock n’ roll?

Given that there is no more save, it should be straight craziness from here on out.

What do you think about this theme, and would you actually enjoy it if some of the contestants are thrown a curveball or two? Share your thoughts below, and head over here to get a sense of some of the craziness that did unfold on the show Thursday night.
