‘American Idol XIII’ top 8 spoilers: What Dexter Roberts, Caleb Johnson, more will sing

American Idol -Tonight is 80s night on “American Idol,” which means most likely an opportunity hear songs that you have already heard be done on this show a million or so times already. This is not a theme that breeds creativity first and foremost, and instead, will probably just make some fans frustrated.

We feel that way even more so after looking at the song list for the episode (obtained via TVLine).

Alex Preston, “Every Breath You Take” – It’s hard to do anything that original with this song. We’re slightly worried.

CJ Harris, “Free Fallin'” – It’s not a good move to have a guy with pitch problems perform a song whose chorus is an elongated note.

Caleb Johnson, “Faithfully” – Love the song, and we have a feeling that this could be what finally erases some recent complains about his performances.

Dexter Roberts, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” – This is a really good choice for Dexter to prove that he has some artistry, and can change up a song and make it into something that suits him.

Jena Irene, “I Love Rock N’ Roll” – On the surface, we hate the choice, but we also hated the choice of “Rolling in the Deep” on the surface. Jena likely knows something that we don’t about how to kill it with this.

Jessica Meuse, “Call Me” – Jessica should really rock this one out, and should be the best performance of this genre from her since early in the live shows.

Malaya Watson, “Through the Fire” – Boring choice. Not feeling it.

Sam Woolf, “Time After Time” – Boring, uninspired choice. We used the save for this?

We’ll see how right or wrong these choices are when the episode actually airs later tonight. For now, click here to see where we’ve ranked these contestants, or here to sign up for more updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
