‘Chicago Fire’ season 2, episode 19 preview: ‘A Heavy Weight’ deals with death

Tonight’s “Chicago Fire” did not start out certainly as an episode where we anticipated a character death, but that happened to be where the story ended. This was the most shocking hour we can remember right away for Dick Wolf’s sophomore show, and it culminated in something that merits a huge SPOILER ALERT: The death of a familiar face.

The first promo for next week’s “A Heavy Weight” does certainly add to the evidence that Jones took her own life, but in addition to the investigation, there is also the standard blame game that comes with anytime such a story like this unfolds.

The synopsis below was released before the episode aired, so it’s hard for it to give away too much; but, it still should allow you to see what some of the specific characters are up to.

“A suicide note is delivered to a surprised Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) digs deeper into Bloom’s (guest star W. Earl Brown) dark past. Elsewhere, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) learns shocking news, and with the help of Shay (Lauren German), Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) goes on the search for a life-changing item.”

The one thing we can almost guarantee is that if you have a huge emotional connection to “Chicago Fire,” then you’re probably going to cry at some point during this episode. We’d advise you with caution to go find a massive box of tissues, stick them by your couch, and (if you’re old enough), grab your favorite beverage of comfort. Maybe it’ll help you get through it. We just hope that the same care is given to it that we saw in the final few minutes, since there’s nothing worse than seeing a shocking TV moment being wasted.
