NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ spoilers: More on the Miriam Lass mystery

Hannibal -Hannibal” has a knack for a few simple things: Being awesome, grossing us out, and also bringing forward surprise after surprise. One of the biggest ones for the series yet came during Friday night’s episode, when it was revealed that Miriam Lass was alive … but was hardly in a good place Jack Crawford at the bottom of a pit, and we have a feeling that the person who put her there was not Leonidas kicking her into it.

During our inaugural “Hannibal” podcast this past weekend (there will be another coming soon!), we discussed at length what bringing Lass back to the show could mean. Now, let’s also share the perspective of a guy who clearly knows what’s going on here. Speaking to TVLine, showrunner / mad scientist Bryan Fuller had the following to say about her story:

“[This story] is very much about what happens when you go away for two years — and you are putty in a villain’s hands, essentially … What part of you survives? What part of you is buried? And how much can you actually recover?”

Fuller also paid a massive compliment to actress Anna Chlumsky, mostly because of the fact that she took time from her holiday vacation (she spends the rest of her time working as a regular on “Veep“) in order to work on this episode. The fact that she is so busy suggests that she may not be able to have a permanent presence on the show, but we’re fine with that so long as we learn a lot about Miriam in a short amount of time.

Friday, we’ll be back with our full review of what we think of “Yakimono,” which we’ve already teased to a certain extent here. Also, be sure to sign up to get further TV updates courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter.
