‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 1 reaction: Pedro Pascal on Oberyn Martell’s arrival

Red Viper -There are too many characters on “Game of Thrones” for every single character to get a substantial amount of time in the limelight, but Oberyn Martell had the closest thing we’ve seen to that in some time during the season 4 premiere. He had quite an introduction courtesy of the scenes in the brothel, where you got to see some of how he operates. Also, you got a chance to see his complicated relationship with the Lannisters courtesy of his discussion with Tyrion Lannister both outside and inside the brother that dominated the early part of the episode.

So for a newcomer to the show in Pedro Pascal, what was it like being able to come in and work with an actor so brilliant in Peter Dinklage? Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published after the premiere (which you can read our review for here) was over, the actor explained and also described filming some of those awkward scenes in the brothel:

“When it’s just you and another actor, it’s like a sport – like tennis – vs. the solitude of being a swimmer. There’s more focus on you. The more ensemble a scene can be, the more you are in it with other people. Especially something like the brothel, we’re all kind of like jumping into the water together. It was the same way working with Peter on my first day. There was pressure I was putting on myself, but I wasn’t alone, because I was with PeterDinklage, who is a phenomenal actor and a very intelligent person who will sort of in an instant made me feel like I was telling a story with someone.”

The Red Viper is not going to be going away at any point in the near future on this show, and as the episodes progress, his significance to the story will become more and more clear. He obviously represents himself, but also a region that has not been explored to a great extent on the series so far.
