‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: ‘Twenty Twelve’ actor joins Mark Gatiss-penned episode
While Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are not working right now hardcore on the next season of “Sherlock,” Moffat’s other project in “Doctor Who” is currently reaping the benefits of their frequent collaboration. Gatiss has written an upcoming episode of the BBC sensation starring Peter Capaldi, and we now know that another popular British TV actor has signed on for a part.
In a new post on Twitter, Tom Riley of “Twenty Twelve” himself was the first to confirm the news, as he expressed his overall feeling of excitement about coming on the show:
“Well that’s out then. I’ve been a massive fan since I was even smaller than Jenna. Very excited. @Markgatiss’s script is awesome. #DoctorWho”
From our personal point of view, we always feel like it is great news whenever any diehard Whovian joins the show for an episode or two. After all, it ensures that the story reminds in good hands, and they know the sort of pressure and stakes that come with the part. They’ll want to enjoy the experience as best they can for themselves, but also ensure that they do a good job to make viewers at home smile.
As with anything else related to “Doctor Who,” though, Riley’s role is shrouded in secrecy. You will have a chance to see him appear at some point this fall when the season airs on BBC and BBC America.
We’ll close with an update on the initial reports that Gatiss was set to direct two episodes of the show. While this remains true, he tweeted out that him being commissioned to pen two episodes does not necessarily mean that they will both be in the eighth season.
