Ratings: ‘NCIS,’ ‘Agents of SHIELD,’ ‘The Mindy Project,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘The Voice’ bottom out

How do you know that spring is officially here? It’s thanks by and large to the fact that temperatures are up, and ratings for some of your favorite shows are down. After being trapped inside for many months in the colder regions of America, people want to take in some of that precious sunshine before finale season rolls around.

Let’s just take a quick look at all of the shows this better weather, and also just natural viewer erosion, is starting to impact.

“Agents of SHIELD” – This show was hurt mostly by just not being very good at the beginning, given that it has shed well over half of its demo audience that it had for its premiere. A 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic may be enough for a renewal, but we have a hard time imagining anything beyond a season 2 if the numbers don’t improve. While Disney may own Marvel now, this is not a cheap show to make.

“NCIS” – The biggest shocker here is that with a 2.3, “NCIS: Los Angeles” (2.4) actually won the preliminary battle. There are external factors, including that the “Los Angeles” show held a special episode, “NCIS” was into a backdoor pilot, and that “NCIS” has to air against “The Voice.” The biggest thing we take from this is that it makes the odds of a full-fledged “NCIS: New Orleans” series a little bit lower if the primary franchise is losing numbers.

“Glee” – We don’t blame the quality of the show now for it getting a 0.9 in the demo. We actually thought last night’s episode was a very good re-imagining of the show in New York. We’ll a little more inclined to blame the quality of the show in season 4 for bringing forth this level of ineptitude. The show is renewed, but we’re calling now a 10-episode finale season that will air on Fridays or Saturdays.

“The Voice’ – what we blame here is the Battle Rounds. They’re boring and drawn-out. A 3.0 rating is still better than anything else on TV, but not the usual levels that this show has grown accustomed to.
