‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: The quest to keep Kat Graham’s Bonnie safe

“The Vampire Diaries” seems to thrive at times from always having at least one person in the “needs to be kept alive at all costs” position, and for the fifth season at the moment, this person seems to be very much Kat Graham’s Bonnie Bennett. She’s no longer an ordinary witch; instead, she is the bridge to the other side, and with that sort of power comes all sorts of valuable questions.

What sort of questions are we talking about here? That is a question that executive producer Caroline Dries is helping to raise right now. Speaking to TV Guide in a new interview, she discussed how keeping Bonnie safe at the moment is more of a priority than it has ever been before … even if this character has always been a likable person who everyone wants to have around:

“We raise the question, ‘Can you even kill Bonnie? What would happen?’ … When she’s in danger, the whole other side is in jeopardy, so it’s a big deal to keep her safe.”

As we have learned already, there are many threats to take down Bonnie and destroy here, and even going into the next new episode later this month entitled “Resident Evil,” her status is largely unclear. The last thing that we saw from her was her body being passed through by dozens of dead people, moments before the arrival of Markos. The only way that we can describe this in the end is “trouble,” and of the course kind for Bonnie and everyone else.

“The Vampire Diaries” is at least through filming the fifth season now, and the cast is preparing for a number of weeks to dive into other opportunities. Luckily, we still have many more weeks to go before we get to the end of the road on our own.
