‘Person of Interest’ season 3, episode 19 review: Reese and Shaw’s high school reunion
“Person of Interest” continues to find a new gear in its third season, and while this story may at times b confusing, it is always fascinating and stuffed full of crazy twists. Despite looking on the surface like a reasonably-simple story, “Most Likely To…” ended up being a very important episode when it comes to the state of the Machine and the status of the project.
Are we now shut down? Despite the order and the process we saw initiated at the end of the episode, it’s pretty hard to believe that this could be the end for so many reasons.
1. Without a program, we really don’t have a show anymore. “Person of Interest” thrives on the mystery, and on this one part of the premise that ties all of the characters together.
2. Also, you still have the presence of Root. She may at times seem either eccentric or just downright crazy, but she excels at getting the job done and understanding the Machine better than anyone.
As for the other part of the story, we enjoyed seeing the case surrounding Reese and Shaw at a high school reunion. There was at least a little bit of room for fun thrown in here, but it also tied back to the Machine storyline in a unique way and put the characters out of their element a little bit. We could argue that it was at times a little unrealistic that nobody at the reunion picked up that Shaw and Reese were playing pretend; maybe these former high school pals were all really drunk or something.
While somewhat flawed, this was just the “Person of Interest” episode we hoped for. Not only was it unique, but it set up the rest of the story well Grade: B.
