‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 5, episode 19 review: Who is White Ghost; was Kensi found?

More scoop -Even though “NCIS: Los Angeles” may have the City of Angels” in their title, that does not exactly mean that every episode has to be set there. The vast majority of “Spoilers of War” Tuesday night was set in Afghanistan, as we saw a rescue mission for Kensi play out after she spent so many installments separated from the rest of the team.

Thankfully, the Kensi reunion happened near the tail end of this episode, even if it was through what was at times a brutal, deadly exchange. There were literally a few minutes whether we wondered if either Sam or Callen was going to survive through this story at all. Typically, we’re not one to worry about the death of a series regular, but you have to remember that there’s been a lot of surprise deaths these days.

Following the rescue of Kensi and the reveal that the White Ghost was hardly what they were cracked up to be (mostly because they weren’t really anything at all), the next big question was simply along the lines of what was going to happen when Deeks and Kensi finally spent some time together again. This scene was saved for the tail end of this episode, and it was … surprising. Kensi actually more distracted at first, but eventually came in for a warm embrace. It wasn’t the run-into-his-arms-and-kiss-him moment that some may have wanted, but it was definitely a nice one to give fans of the couple hope.

Were grateful for this episode, and for all the changes that it brought to the show’s standard change of pace. This was the sort of risky storytelling that you rarely see on a procedural, and we hope that it doesn’t take a pregnancy to enforce these sort of changes in the future. Why not take these risks all the time? Grade: A-.
