NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Sisaundra Lewis, Stevie Jo, and Morgan Wallen battle it out
“The Voice” is finally getting to the live playoffs, and that is something that you have to celebrate given just how long of a wait it has been since arriving to the good stuff. Tuesday brought more performances in the second half of the battle rounds, which took a beating last night to the “How I Met Your Mother” finale in the ratings. Will this be a recovery? We’re certainly feeling like it.
Sisaundra Lewis vs. Biff Gore, “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” (Team Blake) – This was the performance that was teased time and time again leading up to this episode, and we understand it after hearing it. It was such a predictable song choice, but we understand just getting Sisaundra on stage and reminding everyone how great she is. Sorry, Biff: You didn’t have that much of a chance here. Blake chooses Sisaundra.
Ddendyl vs. Deja Hall, “Say Something” (Team Shakira) – The battle of strangely-named singers! But, in the end Deja was the one declared the winner at the end of it in what was at least a hotly-contested battle. Shakira chooses Deja.
Stevie Jo vs. Morgan Wallen, “Story of My Life” (Team Usher) – First of all, we never imagined that we would see two grown dudes commit so heavily to singing a One Direction song quite like these guys did, but they did. (Granted, this is also the most mature track that the boy band has put out there to date.) Grate vocals all around, even if there was no that much done that was completely revolutionary. Once again, the terrible thing about the battles is that it’s always obvious thanks to time when someone is going to be stolen. That was the clear case here. Usher chooses Stevie.
In other news, Kristen Merlin cast a spell to advance to the next round, but her knockout performance was given more of the silent treatment. Episode Grade: B-.
