‘How I Met Your Mother’ series finale: Cobie Smulders describes full-circle nature

More news -Have you started to digest the “How I Met Your Mother” finale? We haven’t quite yet. We tend to not be so reactionary, but we weren’t too kind on the end twist. Let’s just put it that way.

While Cobie Smulders didn’t go into too many details during her appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” this week, she did sit down and discuss how the finale produced some full-circle moments thanks to the children (David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca) shooting some footage for this final episode years ago at around the time of the pilot. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas knew the story that they were going to tell this whole time, but decided to take their own bizarre road to getting there.

Warning: Major spoilers below!

The awkward thing about this interview is most likely the sole fact that it was sot earlier in the day before the episode aired. Therefore, CBS probably could not run the risk of Cobie leaking that the entire story was almost all about Ted dating The Mother, marrying her, and then telling this huge story to her kids so that she could get their permission to ask out Robin on a date. The internet is harshly divided over how this played out. There are some who loved the way that this story ended, but there are also plenty of others who absolutely loathed and despised it. We loved almost all of the series, but really wish we could take back those final few minutes and have Barney reconnect with Robin late in life once he has actually found something very specific that mattered.
