‘True Detective’ season 2: More fun casting chatter while we wait
Given that virtually nothing is known right now about a second season of “True Detective,” including when it will air, it is hard to really spend that much time speculating over casting. Without a confirmed script out there, how in the world can you sit around and say who should be involved?
Yet, we imagine that there will continue to be rumors that are spread just for the fun of it while we all collectively sit around and wait. One of the latest ones falsely linked Brad Pitt to a role, even though it would be all sorts of awesome if he was to do it. Now, there are some out there making crazy mountains out of molehills just about the fact that Kate Mara and Ellen Page got a “favorite” on from HBO Twitter for just talking and posting some fun photos about it. To be clear, we’d love to see the “House of Cards” star appear on the show with the “Juno” actress, mostly because they’re both awesome. But tweeting about a show and a dream does not equal it happening.
We know that there are many out there hoping that at least one detective in the lead role next season is a woman, and our philosophy on it is the same as when it comes to almost any other show: It should be the right fit for the character. We said the same thing when it comes to casting the next Doctor on “Doctor Who”: So long as they bring the right stuff for the role, we don’t care about race or gender. We do, however, feel like the show writing a strong female detective who does not hook up with her partner would be a refreshing change of pace.
When there is some official casting news to report on the next season of “True Detective” (including an actual renewal; shouldn’t that have happened already?), we’ll have that for you here.
