‘Dancing with the Stars’ 18 results: Were Diana Nyad, Billy Dee Williams eliminated?

HereTonight on “Dancing with the Stars,” the show did what was a pretty cruel thing to some of their celebrities in the ballroom: Eliminating more than one contestant over the course of the night. This means that only two performers got an opportunity to dance for a matter of two weeks … which is very sad news, indeed.

The person we feel the saddest for right now is Diana Nyad, who was eliminated less than an hour into the episode Monday after giving one of the lower-scored performances last week. She now joins Martina Navratilova as one of the well-known female athletes to go home first on the season. She is well-known as one of the greatest long-distance swimmers in the world, and she had the determination to go far in the season without a doubt. Our biggest surprise? That she went home before the lower-scored Billy Dee Williams, who obviously has a major “Star Wars” fanbase. How big? He was actually declared safe before the end of the show.

By the time we were near the end of the episode, we were pretty darn sure that the next person eliminated would be Sean Avery, mostly because he was a guy who didn’t really seem to be that excited to be dancing most of the time. We’re also somewhat afraid of him based on what we saw of him during his hockey career. How many hockey fans watch this show? As it turns out, not many. He and Karina Smirnoff were the second pair to be eliminated from the show. In the end, these are the sort of par-for-the-course eliminations we expect on the first results show.
