‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: More on Sam and Dean’s ‘cold war’

Check it out -

When “Supernatural” returns to The CW tonight, it will do so with the first of two episodes that carries with it a very particular focus: Trying to understand greater the history of the Men of Letters. The next two episodes will revolve heavily around them, as Sam and Dean Winchester struggle with the return of Crowley, the Mark of Cain, and a myriad of other issues.

At the end of the day, though, the show continues to come back to one problem that plagues the brothers more than any other: Each other. These two characters are really their greatest assets and their worst enemies. Their conflict will remain integral to the story moving forward, and in an interview setting up tonight’s episode with TVLine, executive producer Jeremy Carver confirms as much with the following comment about comparing their relationship to what is going on with the mark:

“Dean, of course, has this mark, but there’s a more front-and-center [issue], which is that our boys are in a bit of a cold war here. They’re both smarting from some emotional attacks they’ve taken on each other. At the moment, neither is really willing to budge. They’re both trying to get the job done without letting their personal beef get in the way. But if anything is at the top of their minds, it would be that. That’s the elephant in the room.”

Carver also confirmed that at some point, the Winchesters’ story is going to intersect a little bit more with Castiel’s attempts to be a good soldier and fight for Heaven. We celebrate this, mostly because the disjointed nature of the season right now is one of the things we personally find to be most problematic.
