‘The Tomorrow People’ episode 16 review: Stephen, Hillary, and superheroes

The Tomorrow People -The Tomorrow People” is a show that we feel took a very long tie to find its footing. However, now that it has seemingly done just that, we’re left with something that is pretty entertaining.

For its first episode on Monday night, the CW series busted out something in “Superhero” that finally raised a question that we have been interested in for quite a while: Who is going to actually use some of these powers to fight crime, rather than just hide from Ultra and strike when they needed to? It was great that the show took on the subject matter, and also tied this to one of the most reckless characters in Russell. He was vulnerable to all of this stuff, and by the time the end of the episode came about, the wanted to go back to his old “pimp” alter ego (which is basically the worst name ever for any hero).

However, Russell was convinced to stick with the Tomorrow People, which is good for him given that they are a little bit all over the place and can use him. While Cara and Jake are getting closer again, there is still all sorts of lying and a betrayal of trust on a pretty assive level. We’re just glad that the show has stopped shoving Cara and Stephen down our throats, which we were starting to dislike in the same way that we did Oliver and Laurel on “Arrow” for so many years.

Stephen instead has a new potential love interest: Hillary, who proves that Alexa Vegas is very different from her role in “Spy Kids.” She’s an interesting addition, mostly because it blurs the lines a little more between Ultra and The Tomorrow People. Speaking of Ultra, who was ready for these two shockers:

1. Jedikiah could be a father thanks to Morgan’s pregnancy!

2. Stephen’s father is possibly still alive! If nothing else, he’s frozen like Walt Disney’s head, except in this case it is his whole body. Who wants to think that Jedikiah has some explaining to do?

All in all, a very fun and fast-paced episode that shows the improvement this show has made following a shaky start. Grade: B.
