‘Criminal Minds’ season 9 spoilers: ‘The Office’ alum Brian Baumgartner to play deadly role

Brian Baumgartner has had an opportunity to take on a variety of different roles since the end of “The Office,” but he is now getting set for what has to be his most sinister one to date.

According to a new report from TVLine, the actor has signed on to appear in an upcoming episode of “Criminal Minds” season 9 in a role that will have anyone shaking in their boots. Specifically, he is playing the part of a man who, seemingly at random after hitting a certain point of his life, decides to embark on a string brutal murders. Therefore, it is up to the BAU to try to solve the case and track this guy down.

Baumgartner will first appear in the upcoming 22nd episode of the season entitled “Fatal,” and the question that you could be asking yourselves right now is whether or not this character could be the Big Bad for the final few episodes of the season. Last season, this honor went instead to the Regulator, and we know from time to time that the show does like to use the end of their seasons to unload and share some of their significant / dramatic story arcs.

We’re personally glad to see that Brian is getting the great opportunity to do something that he has not always had a great opportunity over the years on TV: Do a great, dramatic, and terrifying character on a drama series. We want to already make the comparison that this could do for him what “Dexter” did for John Lithgow, but only time will tell when it comes to that. He certainly will not be getting the same sort of episode count.
