TV quick hits: ‘The Odd Couple’ casting; ‘Louie’ premiere date; ‘Orange Is the New Black’ news
Sometimes, we have particular themes to our TV quick hits articles; other times, this news really comes from all across the board. For this particular edition, we are looking a little bit more at the latter than the former.
“The Odd Couple” casting – Who is going to be joining Matthew Perry as Felix on the CBS pilot? We have a pretty great answer for you today: Thomas Lennon. The former star of “Reno 911,” who recently starred in “Sean Saves the World” while executive-producing Comedy Central’s “@midnight,” has joined the series in the iconic role. He and Perry have a history together courtesy of a couple of “Friends” episodes, and they also worked together on the movie “17 Again.”
This interpretation of Oscar and Felix (like any other) will be dependent mostly on the writing, but at least from a casting point of view they have this right. The show has brought on board a pair of very familiar actors for a very familiar story, and the challenge now will be coming up with ways to make this feel fresh and new.
“Orange Is the New Black” on the move – The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the Netflix series has smartly decided to enter itself as a drama in the Emmy race rather than a comedy. To be honest, we never quite understood the pull to try to compete for a spot as a drama in the first place; we know that the show crosses genres fairly easily, but there is so much competition in the latter category.
“Louie” premiere – The fourth season of the FX sensation will start on Monday, May 5 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. This marks a full 19 months after the end of the past season. Louis C.K. needed some more time to gather material, and he was allowed basically everything that he needed.
“Girl Meets World” news – Stuart Minkus is returning! Sources confirm that Lee Norris from “Boy Meets World” will reprise his role for at least one episode of the Disney Channel continuation series. This hotly-anticipated show will launch later this year.
