‘American Idol XIII’ results preview: Are Ben Briley, MK Nobilette in trouble?
Tonight, the top 11 becomes the top 10 on “American Idol XIII,” and this is a much bigger night for the contestants and production than what may initially meet the eye. After all, just remember this: The ten contestants who make it past tonight go on the tour, so if for whatever reason there is someone who producers really want to see on the road, they could be inclined to have the judges save them.
So before the show comes, we’re starting up a new feature and proclaiming not only who should be sent home from the show, but also who ultimately will.
Who should be sent home – Dexter Roberts. This was a tough one to figure out, since there’s not a single contestant left who has been consistently terrible among the group. Dexter has actually been solid, but his song choices and performance have teetered on boring. His entire performance of “Sweet Home Alabama” could have very well doubled as a giant Roll Tide commercial. We prefer country vocalists who do a little more with the stage, or choose songs a little more unexpected.
Who will be sent home – MK Nobilette. She had a better performance (see our take of it here) last night with “Can You Feel My Love,” but it may be too little, too late. While it can be done on this show, it is very hard to go from being a perennial member of the bottom three to a contender. We imagine her being in there with Ben Briley (who we at least give some credit to for trying different things on the show) and then Majesty Rose. While she has been great most of the season, that performance of “Let It Go” from “Frozen” was enough to make us turn into a block of ice. The withering away of the ladies will probably continue for one more week, and then save for Malaya Watson, we cannot really see Majesty, Jena Irene, or Jessica Meuse (who is going to get sympathy votes after the band screwed her) leaving for a little while.
