‘Mad Men’ season 7: Matthew Weiner completely rules out spin-off, talks promotional material
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for another edition of “Mad Men press interviews,” which basically amounts to creator Matthew Weiner dodging this question and that question when it comes to the show. He’s notoriously secret about giving anything away, and that includes everything from story arcs to even guest stars.
In an interview with TV Guide today, Weiner declined to answer whether or not Bob Benson was going to be around again for more episodes (though we assume that James Wolk is busy thanks to “The Crazy Ones“); also, he did not want to get too much into the themes of the season, though he did say to not read too much into the promotional material that is out there. This includes the photo above, and the recent promo that we gamefully tried to deconstruct after it came out (we’re still hoping that there is some sort of secret there to be revealed.)
Weiner was at least a little more open about one thing: There is not going to be a “Better Call Pete,” or any other sort of spin-off based on this show. The ending that you get in 2015 will be the ending:
“For Mad Men, there is no sequel. I completely rule it out. There will be 92 episodes. I exhausted this world. I don’t know what’s going to be on my mind when the show is over but there is no plan to revisit this world. I have no intention of doing more of this.”
Are we bummed about this? Not really, given that we are still in a nervous sweat over whether or not “Better Call Saul” is going to completely taint our reputation of “Breaking Bad.” (We’ll leave our dreams of “The Adventures of Harry Crane” left in our mind.)
