‘Big Brother 16’ will premiere in June; Halle Berry’s ‘Extant’ pushed a week
For “Big Brother” fanatics out there, we come bearing gifts: There is no reason to worry about you getting a shorter season than last summer just because so many people were racist or terrible. The 16th season of the show has been confirmed now to start on Wednesday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Meanwhile, the first live show, which will probably feature the first eviction, comes on the air on the 26th at 9:00.
The airing schedule for the new season is nothing to be surprised at all, mostly because it is following the pattern of so many other “Big Brother” seasons before it. The Sunday time is also 8:00, and the only reason the eviction is later is so that it can air after the “Big Bang Theory” comedy block that performs so well in the ratings. There is no word yet as per the casting, but we have openly campaigned in the past for there to be an all-star season. For now, we’ll just sit around and enjoy “Big Brother Canada” until it ends in May.
As for some other CBS programming news, “Under the Dome” season 2 was already confirmed for a return on Monday, June 30 at 10:00, and in a small programming change, “Extant” starring Halle Berry will start a week later than planned on Wednesday, July 9 at 9:00 after “Big Brother.” Our theory? That CBS may have decided that airing a premiere two days before July 4 was probably a bad idea.
CBS typically takes a big chunk of June off from new programming, and the reasons for that are twofold:
1. With kids getting out of school for the summer, many families believe that this is the time for vacationing and being outside.
2. CBS likes the late June / early July premieres so that they can run straight through until the start of the fall season in September.
