NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Meet Cary Laine, Deja Hall, Noah Lis, Madilyn Paige, and more

“The Voice” is back for more! Tuesday night marked the first audition show to air in the one-hour format, and there were luckily a number of good performances through in here … even if there were less than in the premiere. The blind auditions are always the best part of this season, and there was a lot to like tonight.

The only major criticism that we have? It is basically the same exact thing that we had with the premiere, at least in that we felt like the show really has gotten a little too happy with the chairs turning around. You want this moment to feel special! Instead, it was almost commonplace among the group.

Now that we’ve said that, let’s going into the singers separated by what coach they chose.

Team Adam Levine

Noah Lis, “Mr. & Mrs. Jones” – This is going to be a pretty interesting contestant on Blake’s team, mostly because he is some sort of combination between Michael Buble and a member of a grunge band. We don’t know how he really fits in with Blake, but he surprisingly picked him over Adam.

Cary Laine, “Better Dig Two” – How about this for a surprise? Cary is a great country artist with a ton of character in her voice, and all four judges turned around. But, Cary still did not choose Blake Shelton.

Team Blake Shelton

Delvin Choice, “A Song For You” – It’s the singing Starbucks commercial again! Starbucks is a big sponsor for the show, so they have no problem showing this guy on the job. Away from that, though, he does have a very fine voice that cannot be forgotten. “A Song For You” is hardly the most current song in the universe, but with the right coach out of the four choices, he could end up being a sleeper in the long run.

Team Shakira

Deja Hall, “True Colors” – This may be the first big win for Shakira this season. A singer with a powerful voice and a powerful audition. We see her going very, very far in the competition. One of the best pure singers on the night.

Team Usher

Madilyn Paige, “Titanium” – This one had Usher telegraphed almost from the beginning. given that she sang a song from his oft-collaborator David Guetta. At 16 years old, this is the sort of “undiscovered” contestant that the show loves. They can be molded, and there is not a history of past failure in the industry.

Keith Shuskie, “Somewhere Only We Know” – This was very sad. How can we move forward without the sight of Keith and his glorious mustache the rest of the season? This is a snake oil salesman from 1890 sort of ‘stache! Sadly, his performance was a little shaky. Episode Grade: B+.
