‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 video: Rose Leslie, Gwendoline Christie on filming in Iceland
“Game of Thrones” is a show that constantly gives its fans reason to smile and celebrate, and this time around, they are doing so by introducing something new into the arsenal of popular filming locations: Iceland without all the ice. Typically when the show visits the small country, it is during the winter, where almost everything is covered in a snowy terrain.
However, this time around the scenery from the summer months is present, and absolutely beautiful. The new video from HBO gives you a greater sense of that, as actors Rory McCann (The Hound), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) all explain what it was like filming during this time of year. The temperatures definitely made things more pleasant for most … except for Rory, who claimed that he was boiling under The Hound’s heavy suit of armor.
Every location for “Game of Thrones” has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages, and the ones with this one are explained as such. While you do have the benefit of a brand-new terrain without interruption from modern technology, you do have the issue still in that filming in Iceland is not cheap. The areas are remote, and you have to bring in most of the cast and crew to a place where there are not nearly as many flights to as somewhere like Belfast, where they film most of the interior scenes.
The actors that are confirmed to be appearing in Iceland scenes are all mentioned above along with Maisie Williams. While he has been there for many years, it is currently not confirmed yet as to whether or not Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) will surface. If he doesn’t there, we will certainly feel bad for him given that he was only then there during the miserable times.
