NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 6 video: Christina Grimmie performs for the coaches
There is quite a variety of interesting contestants performing on “The Voice” this year, but none are likely going to get the attention of judges like Christina Grimmie. She is one of most well-known contestants to appear, at least depending on who you are. She has opened for a number of big stars on tour, and even did some videos for the “American Idol” tour a couple of years back.
But, what we do like about this show sometimes is the feeling of surprise you get when someone you’ve already heard of auditions. It’s a little different than “American Idol,” and how that is all about “undiscovered” talent. The video performance of Grimmie below singing “Wrecking Ball” got her all four chairs to turn around, and we certainly get that. She is a seasoned performer who knows how to rock out an audience; plus, she did a little key change at the end that keeps this from being just a carbon copy of the performances that have already been done of this song. It’s starting to get a little played-out.
The coaches make some compelling arguments for Grimmie. Shakira jokes that she was hormonal last time she was on the show, and the mocks Adam Levine for being “tired,” and not really prepared to do well this season. Usher of course butters her up, and we actually feel like Blake Shelton gave the best pitch: He’s not looking for personal glory; instead, he wants to just help her become the star that she wants to be. While we complain about Blake’s acts almost always doing really well, we’d pick him as a coach if we were on. Why? He really puts forth the effort to support some of the artists who are a part of his team in any way that he can.

While I’m all for known and experienced artists participating on the show, I’m a little curious how things will play out if/when she reaches the Live Shows, given her massive existing fanbase (2 million subscribers on YouTube and nearly 400k followers on twitter). There’s no reason that she won’t EASILY sweep the voting.
