2014 BRIT Awards: Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars, Bastille among winners
The 2014 BRIT Awards definitely seemed to have one thing right: Making sure to actually give you some winners pretty early in the show. While the Grammys sometimes made you wait a full hour to get three award winners announced, ITV managed to cram in three trophy presentations within the first half-hour that the ceremony was on the air.
British Female Solo Artist – Ellie Goulding. Ellie was not particularly comfortable at times during the acceptance speech, giving one of the more succinct speeches of the entire night.
International Male Solo Artist – Bruno Mars. This is the second time that he has won this award over the course of his time on the show. Also, who knew that he was such a fan of “The Jeremy Kyle Show”?
British Breakthrough Act – Bastille. They are actually well on their way to becoming an international breakthrough act, since we are starting to hear more and more about them here in North America.
Best British Group – Arctic Monkes. Surprised? So are we, given that we thought that One Direction would really just sweep everything given their fans in the audience.
Global Success Award – One Direction. There wasn’t really any doubt here, right? It’s hard to dispute anything that these guys did when it comes to just how successful they have been in terms of sales.
Best British Single – Rudimental, “Waiting All Night.” Well, you certainly cannot accuse the BRIT Awards of playing favorites to the people who are the most famous in the audience.
International Group – Daft Punk. Given the way that they have cleaned house lately, this is no surprise.
British Male Solo Artist – David Bowie. A great achievement! Also, a little bit of a controversial comment about Scotland, no?
International Female Solo Artist – Lorde, who has to be pretty darn thrilled with this given that she is just 17.
