NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Cee Lo Green not returning for season 7 … or ever?

Cee Lo Green -Is Cee Lo Green done spinning his chair around on “The Voice“? After spending four seasons as a part of the show, including the first three and the one that aired this past fall, the “Forget You” singer seems ready to be moving on.

Cee Lo confirmed this news in an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” earlier this week, saying that he doesn’t want to “wear out his welcome” on the show. During some of the early seasons of the show he was one of the most memorable coaches, and had such craziness around him including Purrfect the Cat, some funny fashion choices, and of course an array of sunglasses. He brought an eclectic feel to the proceedings, since no one really knew just what he was going to do on any given week.

After his appearance on the daytime show, Green released another statement saying that he does plan to still continue having a relationship with NBC, even if he is not a part of the network’s regular roster of shows anymore:

“The Voice has been an immensely enjoyable experience for me and I can only hope I have enriched the lives of our viewers, the contestants, and the many friends I made there. I will always be there in spirit. Meanwhile, NBC and I plan to continue our relationship with several new co-ventures including a new music show, while we also explore our ideas for me to create and host a new show of my own. I will not go quietly into the night… expect more great music and entertainment done in my own unique unmistakable and undeniable way. The Voice has given me all the altitude and incentive to do just that. Thanks for the memories and make way for many more!

What does this mean? Basically, that there will be a different roster of coaches for the fall season since the beginning of the show. It’s possible that Usher or Shakira, who are on the upcoming season, could fill that spot … though it’s also possible that someone else could be brought in. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton could at some point also tire of the experience after being there from the very beginning, and we could eventually see some need for other changes.
