TV quick hits: ‘CSI’ spin-off, Joe Biden’s ‘View’ gig, and Kal Penn – Jon Heder castings
There is quite a bit happening right now in the world of pilot season, and let’s start things off with what we feel is particularly interesting given how many years we are into “CSI”: The show may now be given another spin-off despite being nearly a decade and a half into its run.
The easiest way to describe this project, written in part by original creator Anthony Zuiker, is that it would feature more on the world of cyber-crime compared to what you get on the flagship show. This prospective series would be planted into an upcoming “CSI” episode, which would be eligible to be a series during the upcoming fall season.
We feel like this show has its work cut out for it, given that not only is cyber crime not exactly that exciting, but this is a show that showed its age a while ago. Heck, both “CSI: Miami” and “CSI: NY” have already come and gone before this show even launches.
As for some other castings…
Jon Heder – The man behind “Napoleon Dynamite” is teaming up with Jane Kaczmarek (“Malcolm in the Middle”) for a series entitled “Here’s Your D**n Family,” where he will play the role of a 30-something guy who lives with his mom, and soon finds out that she got married and that her new husband and his kids are moving in. Johnny Galecki of “The Big Bang Theory” is one of the producers of the show, which could air on Fox.
Kal Penn – Deadline reports that less than a year after “We Are Men” was canceled, Penn is working again with CBS on their ambitious new drama “Battle Creek,” created in part by Vince Gilligan and produced by David Shore. He will play the role of a detective in the town, and the report says that his relationship with Shore from “House” is why he settled on the gig.
Joe Biden’s “View” gig – Next Tuesday, the Vice-President will be returning to the morning show after his appearance on the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” premiere, where he will discuss health care and some other projects.
