‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 continues to devour Olympics … but at a lesser pace
Zombies continue to be all the rage in America, and when it comes to young people, they would rather watch them try to eat people’s brains than the world’s greatest athletes.
The ratings for Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” are finally in, and with a 6.8 in the 18-49 demographic, it ended up being the #1 program of the night … even if the show still lost to the Sochi Olympics in total viewers. This is a huge win for AMC; while “The Walking Dead” lost more than a ratings point from the midseason premiere, it proves that if you have a good enough show that people actually like, viewers are going to still choose you over even some entertainment that they can watch only once every four years. If you really want to see Olympic coverage bad enough, after all, you can always check it out online.
The next time that we really feel like “The Walking Dead” could actually break its own record 8.1 rating is when the finale airs a little later this spring; while it will be competing against other scripted shows, the competition from sports will be long gone. Also, it does not even have to worry about fighting off “Game of Thrones” this time like it did back in 2013.
Before that time, there is plenty to come on “The Walking Dead.” We have just witnessed the arrival of Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita, and they have a mission that we’re going to see playing out over the course of the next several episodes. Given that Michael Cudlitz is a series regular, odds are that his story will be told for quite a while.
