‘America’s Next Top Model’ brings back J. Alexander after two-cycle break
It was not that long ago that we were thinking of “America’s Next Top Model” as a show that had completely lost much of its identity. Save for Tyra Banks, almost not a single person on the show really held the same sort of title that they did at the start of the series run. A good five or six years ago, there were episodes of the show that drew almost 5 million viewers. That’s crazy to think of now in the modern CW marketplace, where they are really lucky if any show gets over 3.
The news today is hopefully going to provide the best of both worlds for the series, giving a little bit of the old as well as the new. The CW announced that for their next season premiering this summer, Tyra will be joined on the judging panel by Kelly Cutrone, new photographer Yu Tsa, and also none other than J. Alexander! “Miss J” was originally a part of the show as a runway coach (and a judge), but was dismissed two cycles ago along with Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel as the ratings continued to decline.
In a statement now confirming Alexander’s return, Banks was of course over the moon:
“His name says it all. I’ve missed ‘Miss J’ and am elated he’s back. I know Top Model fans will rejoice!”
Of course, we would rejoice even more if the entire trio of guys was back … but this is a good start. Last season included male models and was the best cycle we’ve had in a while, so hopefully this will keep that momentum going in the right direction.
