‘Two and a Half Men’ season 11 vs. ‘The Crazy Ones’; which has better odds to survive?
You may have heard the news earlier this week that starting up with their returns on February 27, “Two and a Half Men” and “The Crazy Ones” are going to be swapping out timeslots for the first time, and will do so for the rest of the season. This means that the Ashton Kutcher comedy will suddenly serve as a lead-in, and could hopefully pull in a few more viewers from folks who are watching “The Millers” a half-hour before.
But with this change in mind, it’s got us thinking right now as to the current state of CBS comedies. Which have the best odds of coming back for another season? We thought we’d do a quick rundown today using a variety of different variables, including ratings, cost, critical reception and more. Note that we can’t include “Friends with Better Lives” or “Bad Teacher” in here, since they have not premiered.
1. “The Big Bang Theory” – It’s the network’s highest-rated show, and while there are salary negotiations that need to happen, it’ll work out.
2. “2 Broke Girls” – Its ratings have improved mightily since moving to 8:30 after “How I Met Your Mother.” It may not be a monster hit, but it’s a hit with a reasonable following.
3. “The Millers” – It may be lead-in dependent, but there’s no way CBS cancels it with the figures that it is currently pulling.
4. “Mike & Molly” – Despite not even being on the fall schedule, its proven to be an anchor. Plus, you want to keep Melissa McCarthy in your family as long as you can.
5. “Mom” – It’s not a huge hit by any standards, but the Anna Faris comedy does have the Chuck Lorre name working for it. Also, its early in the run, and therefore not too expensive.
6. “Two and a Half Men” – Its ratings are OK, but it is very expensive at this point with Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer’s salaries. The reason to keep it is that it can actually draw big ratings if put in the right place. It’s just a show that people will watch if it’s on, but not go out of their way for.
7. “The Crazy Ones” – We like the show, but its move to 9:30 is a bad sign that it could be going the way of the dodo soon. CBS is more likely to keep “Mom” we feel, since its format and premise are a little more on-brand.
