Could you imagine ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 with Matt Smith? ‘Doctor Who’ alum can

“Doctor Who” recently lost Matt Smith as a leading man, but could this be “The Walking Dead’s” gain? While it is extremely unlikely that we would ever see the actor on the AMC series, it’s still one of those fun little things to think about that would make your TV nerd-brain melt a little bit.

This idea was something that was floated by Smith during his appearance at Wizard World New Orleans recently, where he (per Comicbook.com) professed to be a big fan of America’s highest-rated show.

Now, if we were to actually look at the idea of Smith joining this series as a genuine possibility, there are a number of different things that we would have to consider. First of all, finding the right character for him. You don’t want to plug him in just for the sake of having Matt Smith, and that may take having to create someone specifically for him to play. It doesn’t have to be the 11th Doctor all over again, but something different that he could sink his teeth into … at least if we are talking about a significant role.

Then again, here is the major counter-argument: Sometimes, you have to avoid big-name guest stars no matter how much you may like them. Why? The biggest reason is that you want to ensure that no one star ends up outshining the pack. If we saw Smith on “The Walking Dead,” it would hard to focus on the action.

This is why our perfect solution is this: Have Smith, if he’s game, cameo as a zombie. This way, you get the little Easter egg, and it doesn’t take away from the story.
