‘Game of Thrones’ season 4: Emilia Clarke defeats ‘Community’s’ Alison Brie to win web honor
Who knew that having an army of dragons would be so effective in winning internet battles? It’s either that or just the nature of her “Game of Thrones” character that enabled Emilia Clarke to score a new honor from the internet this week.
Clarke was recently named number 1 of the Top 99 Most Desirable Women in the world list by AskMen, who conduct this survey-of-sorts from viewers every year. From what we can tell, it’s basically another version of the Maxim Hot 100, with the exception being that this one isn’t completely overrun with fans of Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato trying to vote the Disney trio to the top of the list.
We don’t know whether or not this list is the purest indictment on the influence of television on society, but how often do you see a list of people with two TV stars at the top? Following up Clarke at #2 is “Community” star Alison Brie, though from there we only have one other current TV star in the top ten: Kerry Washington of “Scandal,” who sits at #7. (Margot Robbie, at #10, was previously a part of the brilliant ABC series “Pan Am.”)
What can the TV industry really learn from data like this? The biggest thing is that typically when it comes to these sort of lists, the winners are really the ones with the most dedicated fans. We have a feeling, for example, that the majority of Americans know Jennifer Lawrence or Kate Moss (who are both in the top 10) more than they know Alison Brie, but she has a much more active fanbase online. This is something that “Community” could tap into more when it comes to the promotion of their show (which always needs more support).
As for “Game of Thrones” … everyone already knew that it was popular. No stunner there to anyone. If you want to get some more news pertaining to the future of the HBO franchise, just sure to visit the link here. Also, sign up now to get even more scoop from us via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
