TV quick hits: ‘Bates Motel’ actor lands pilot; ‘The Lego Movie’ vs. TV analyst; ‘Silicon Valley’ teaser
We’ve got a number of various stories to get to in our latest edition of TV Quick Hits, and let’s begin here with what is the big news in the world of Jere Burns (who is so fantastic that he worth being the lead-off on almost any story): The man has a potential new pilot!
The actor, who is known for his roles on “Justified,” “Bates Motel,” and “Burn Notice,” is in talks for the role of Chet Atkins in “Tribeca,” the TBS comedy pilot that will also star Rashida Jones of “Parks and Recreation.” The show is designed to be a spoof of the standard cop procedural, and it remains to be seen just how many similarities it has to “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Obviously, this has many worried about the fate of Wynn Duffy in “Justified,” but we would remind you that given that the FX drama is not that far away from the end of its run, we could theoretically see him pulling double duty for at least long enough to do both of the shows.
As for some other headlines…
Fox Business vs. Lego Movie – The network literally devoted a full segment recently to whether or not “The Lego Movie’s” villain was some sort of secret commentary about the way in which business owners are being portrayed as evil … and there’s also a Mitt Romney comparison. You are either going to have one of two reactions after watching this: Either you will think that it’s hilarious and a waste of time for a serious network to analyze a kids movie, or you’ll think that the points are valid and the movie is reinforcing a bad message into young minds.
“Silicon Valley” preview – This new show from Mike Judge (“Office Space”) feels like it has the potential to be one of the best new shows of the entire season, and its cast is a good one in between Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, T.J. Miller, Amanda Crew, and more.
