Fox’s ‘Gotham’: ‘Southland’ alum to play young James Gordon in new origin story

We know that there are many a Batman fan out there, and thanks to that, we are very pleased to report the following when it comes to Fox’s “Gotham”: The leading man for the show has been cast!

So who are we looking at here? It is none other than “Southland” alum Ben Mackenzie, who is going to take on the role of a young James Gordon in the new series that is being created by Bruno Heller of “The Mentalist.” This is one of the most-ambitious series out there, especially since the plans are for the show to introduce a very young Bruce Wayne as a series regular character, as well. This is not any sort of ordinary interpretation of the Batman story just using a few familiar characters; this is actually a full-on take on the classic DC Comics franchise, with the only major difference being that many of the events take place a little bit earlier here than they do in the comics.

With Mackenzie, we really feel like Heller and company have made the perfect choice. This is a guy who already has a great deal of knowledge when it comes to the world of crime thanks to his past work on TV, and Heller himself is a bit of a mystery mastermind. With their powers forged together, they should prove to be a pretty formidable to any in their way.

Also, we know now that there is little doubting the ability of “Gotham” to find a spot on the schedule. With Fox making the move to cancel “The X Factor,” they suddenly have a ton of spots open for the taking.

What do you think about the casting of Mackenzie? One way or the other, be sure to share your thoughts below!
