Ratings quick hits: Jimmy Fallon sets ‘Late Night’ record; Olympics, ‘Enlisted’ down

Late Night with Jimmy FallonTo help get you through this busy and also possibly-cold Saturday, we have at least a few more updates now to share.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” goes out big – Obviously, there could be a big interest in seeing more of Jimmy on TV moving forward. Airing after the Olympics opening ceremony, the show’s final episode before Fallon moves to “The Tonight Show” on February 24 drew a pretty impressive 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also 6.6 million viewers. That is the biggest audience for the show since David Letterman left in the early 1990s.

However, there is a major caveat here to all this The show aired a little earlier than usual in 12:05 a.m. Eastern, and had the benefit of an enormous lead-in.

Olympics rule as always – how big of a lead-in are we talking about here? Well, just think about it this way. The Olympics turned out some ratings that were worthy of a gold medal and then some. During primetime, the show drew a huge 8.6 rating in the demo and almost 32 million viewers, which is down slightly from when the games were in Vancouver four years ago. Given that this was on a massive delay and many viewers probably caught the show online, that is really not so surprising at all.

“Enlisted” falls For all of you who love “Enlisted” like we do, sad news. The show dropped in the ratings again, this time to a 0.7 in the demo for its new episode Friday. If there is any sort of a silver lining that you can come up with here, it is that there was competition from the Olympics, and it is also not like the show was particularly well-promoted at all.

Still, this show is a longshot for renewal, especially when you consider the critical acclaim for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and the truth that “Dads” is actually pulling decent numbers comparably despite the fact that most critics hate it.
