‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Paul Wesley to direct big episode

Are you ready to see one of the stars of “The Vampire Diaries” take on even more in the way of responsibilities? Apparently, it is not enough just yet to have Paul Wesley starring on the show as Stefan Salvatore; he’s also got to step behind the camera to direct the upcoming 18th installment of season 5.

This will mark Paul’s directorial debut for the CW series, and it is something that he is very exciting to take on. He confirmed the news during an interview with BuzzFeed, where he also shed a few details about the overall feel for the episode, and how much it will feature his character:

“It’s an honor and the cast couldn’t be any more supportive, which I feel truly grateful for … [The episode] feels like our world, but something is a bit askew. It feels uneasy. And I respond to that.

“It’s not Stefan-light, but it’s also not Stefan-heavy … I’d say it is somewhere in the middle. A good friend of mine recently directed a film he also starred in, and I was on set the whole time, so I got to see firsthand what that experience looked like.”

Paul said that he expressed his interest to executive producer Julie Plec and the team on the show some time ago, but was told that he would have to study and prepare extensively to be given an opportunity. Thanks to that, he has been shadowing directors, seeing what the full process is like, and sitting in on various meanings. Basically, this is all proof that even if you are a famous actor who is beloved by the fans, you don’t just get the job of Director handed to you on a silver platter; you have to work for it.
