‘Survivor: Cagayan’ castaway spotlight: Can Yung ‘Woo’ Hwang focus enough to win?

Survivor -When you look at most of the members of the Brawn tribe on “Survivor: Cagayan,” a lot of them are really identifiable thanks to their sheer size. There are some very big dudes in this group, and even some of the ladies are extremely muscular.

So what makes Yung “Woo” Hwang (who we are going to call Woo the rest of the way) bring to the table, beyond just really great hair? He’s a combination martial artist / surfer with a ton of confidence, an ability to focus very well, and also potentially an ability to be a little bit less of a target. In the end, we have a feeling that he is going to be one of the contestants to watch out for throughout the entire season.

Name – James “Woo” Hwang

Age – 29

Tribe – Aparri (otherwise known as the Brawn)

Location – Newport Beach, California

Occupation – Martial Arts Instructor

What he brings to the game – On paper, what may be one of the best resumes to fare well in challenges out of anyone that we’ve seen. He is extremely athletic, and also knows how to balance and focus enough in theory to do well in some of the mental challenges. He is a serious force to be reckoned with in that capacity, and he has the confidence to not be hindered by many of the elements that are out there. Also, Woo thinks that he has a good social game and can be very friendly … and he’ll need that. The biggest thing that he needs to do on this tribe is not have an ego, and let his performance speak for itself.

What he will struggle with – Being able to actually be humble enough to allow his performance to speak for itself. We imagine Woo being the sort of guy, at least based on his bio, who wants everyone to know how perfect for “Survivor” he is. You have to be humble to keep the other guys from going at you, and it’s hard to figure out whether or not he is really capable of that.

Past “Survivor” comparison – It really has to be Ozzy here, since there is no other comparison that jumps out. There is a similar sort of confidence, physical prowess, and also challenge strength. Also, there seems to be the same sort of lack of awareness when it comes to strategy. Having a good social game is great, but you need to have something to go behind it.

Prediction – The best-case scenario for Woo is that he makes it really far in the game, and goes on such an immunity run that he cannot be denied in the end. But, much like Ozzy in “Cook Islands,” we think it’ll be hard to get completely over the top unless he makes some moves. We feel like he will go far and possibly even make the final three, but there’ll still be a problem with actually winning.
