Ratings: ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ ‘New Girl’ see strong numbers after Super Bowl

The Super Bowl being a blowout certainly turned out to be beneficial to some of the shows airing after them, especially if your name is “New Girl.”

“New Girl” was the biggest winner of the night with an impressive 11.1 rating and over 25 million viewers on the night, which are both enormous increases from last year, when CBS aired “Elementary.” It is not entirely clear just how many of those viewers will actually switch over to Fox now to watch new episodes, but we suppose it is a step in the right direction.

Also, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” posted some solid numbers, even if they did not have the same luxury of airing directly after the big game. Its 6.7 rating and 14.8 million viewers are still very nice numbers to look at, and we feel like the fact that this episode was especially entertaining is going to help it very much in the long run. Twitter was very kind to it, and if both of these shows manage to even just pick up a tenth of the new fans who watched their shows Sunday night, they will be so much better off in the long run.

In continuing the pattern, the show will be on NBC next year, which has the challenge now of trying to figure out what to put on after it in terms of a premiere. Three years ago, “The Voice” turned out to be a huge performer in that spot. But, they could now choose to boost a hit like “The Blacklist,” or something new that they decide to bring to the table.
