Super Bowl XLVIII: Queen Latifah performs ‘America the Beautiful’

This has turned out to be quite the eventful past week or so for Queen Latifah. It was only a week ago that the singer / rapper / host decided to make her presence felt at the Grammys, when she joined the likes of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for an epic performance of “Same Love” that included many couples getting married in the audience.

So for the big game on Super Bowl XLVIII, Latifah had the opportunity to perform one of the most patriotic songs out there: “America the Beautiful.” This is a track that has been done a million times before, but the Queen’s version of it was soft and poignant. To be fair, there were a few moments in here where we really could not hear her voice that well, in the midst of all of the backup singers that she had there in order to support her.

Still, she did the most important thing that almost anyone can do on this occasion: Try not to mess anything up. There was no substantial faux pas that anyone is going to sit around and discuss for a long time. (Just ask Christina Aguilera … or Roseanne … the sort of impact that a botched performance of this song can have on people.) She gets to come of this unscathed, and can now go back to doing some more of what she does best, including appearing on her daytime talk show and speaking about some of her favorite topics of discussion.
