Super Bowl commercials: Budweiser’s Clydesdales, a puppy, and Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go’

Budweiser -Every loves a good Super Bowl commercial, and sometimes, a requirement for this is not necessarily humor. While Bud Light has become a hotbed for bathroom humor over the years with their ads, Budweiser has gone for a much more emotional approach courtesy of an iconic symbol: The Clydesdale horse.

This is a great example of something that has been made into a symbol by the brand, and has a deep emotional connection to it. Even if you don’t like beer, there are times when you may be touched and moved by some of these ads.

What worked – It is touching, and the story of a puppy and a horse may have made you choked up. Also, the choice of Passenger’s hit song “Let Her Go” was a very smart inclusion to the commercial, especially since this is a song that is already well-known. (“Let Her Go” is sure to do well on iTunes following this.)

What didn’t – There is really not much. The only concern that you could ever have when you have an ad like this is that there may be a few people who are living under a rock, and for that reason have no clue what the connection is between these horses and a famous beverage.

Our grade: A. This is one of the best ads that we’ve seen from Budweiser in years. Unless you just don’t like the quality of these ads or are so anti-beer that you cannot appreciate the advertisement. We have no idea just what there is to hate about this spot.
