‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7: Kurt Sutter on why final season will have 13 episodes
Ready for a “Sons of Anarchy” update in the offseason? We don’t often have an opportunity to share new things at this time of year, but thanks to creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter, we have clarification on a few things that we know many have discussed since even before the season 6 finale.
In the latest edition of “WTFSutter,” which you can see below (or subscribe to here), Kurt reveals that there were some discussions on making season 7 of the show a little longer than the standard 13 episodes. Making the season longer would have created issues when it comes to the show’s licensing fee, and creatively, there is also still plenty of time and space as is to wrap the story up perfectly.
Work has begun in the writers room on season 7, which will start production in May and will premiere likely the second week of September (as per tradition). Sutter also dropped one bit of music news related to the show (he has found the song that will play during the first montage of the season), as well as something else related to Marilyn Manson. While he doesn’t necessarily reveal every detail, he claims that Manson is interested in covering a song that he was involved with; not only that, but Sutter may use one of the legendary performer’s songs in season 7.
While we have said this before, it is totally cool that Sutter continues to do these. Just take a look at some of the other showrunners out there, and ask yourself just how involved in the process of communicating with fans they are. There’s nothing in Sutter’s contract that forces him to do this, unless he is overly sadistic to himself and wrote it in.
