Super Bowl commercials: ‘Captain America,’ ‘Spider-Man’ among franchises booking TV trailers
There are a variety of different types of commercials that are willing to pay huge amount of money for time during the Super Bowl. You have the national companies, who want to pay millions in order to get their product shown off for just a few brief seconds. Then, you also have the the local businesses, who try to put something on their market and hope that it catches on elsewhere. (Will Ferrell and Old Milwaukee is a great example of that.)
Then finally, you have the movie studios, who try to use the game to get people tremendously excited about what they have coming out later in the year. Typically, these are summer movies, since these ads are an enormous investment, and you have to have a ton of faith that you are going to be able to have a hit here to take this sort of risk with them. Otherwise, you’re losing studio costs on top of whatever you put into marketing.
While we’re not a movie site and aren’t going to sit here and cover all of the films in terms of their story, we will at least tell you that “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” and “Need for Speed” are among the movies that are going to be putting ads on during the show. We’ll of course provide some of the trailers for you when they come out during the game, just as we would any other commercial, and we’ll try to grade it based on its effective use of the ad time rather than something that we would actually want to see or not.
