‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Will Elena, Stefan face new Big Bad?
“The Vampire Diaries” has different degrees of villains that it likes to show off: There are villains, and then there are VILLAINS with all capitals and motivations to destroy the entire world as we know it. The last time that we feel like we’ve met anyone truly that awful, it was Klaus … and yes, we know that we have seen both Silas and Professor Shane since that time.
Unfortunately, there is no indication as of yet as to when the next super-terrifying Big Bad is going to come on the show, but we at least do have some sort of reassurance that they are coming at some point. That reassurance is coming from none other than executive producer Julie Plec, who tells E! News the following about how this Traveler story is going to set up something even more surprising down the road:
“We’ve been doing a nice slow, slow, slow burn of this Traveler storyline…what we will come to understand what exactly it is these people want, what it has to do with this alleged doppelgänger prophecy and what they need from our doppelgängers. At the end of that, there will be a face to that group that we will meet later in the season who we haven’t cast yet.”
Our personal hope here is that if there is a new villain, it introduces us to something that is very different than any of the other villains, including some sort of new branch of witch or supernatural creature. There’s just not much else you can milk from vampires, and we don’t want to feel like there was a part of the known history in the show that was just skipped over.
What do you want to see evolve from this story, and is there any sort of villain that you’re hoping to see who has not appeared yet? Share your thoughts below! Count Dracula. No, he is not in the novels, but I think he would make a very compelling character, representative of perhaps a breed of vampire that is unlike any of the vampires on the show. A vampire with “the strength of twenty or more men”, as Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) put it in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). Dracula would be a villain so powerful that perhaps the Originals would seek assistance from Stefan, Damon, Elena and Caroline. Tie him into the story somehow as Vlad the Impaler whose lost love happened to be a Petrova doppelganger. He then has a fling with Elena, etc., etc., the show’s ratings skyrocket and so forth.
