‘Chicago PD’s’ order extended by NBC

Do you love “Chicago PD,” or at least love it enough to be excited about seeing a little bit more of it this season.

NBC confirmed today that the show, which has drawn consistent ratings since its debut earlier this season, will receive in total two extra episodes this season. That rings the overall order to 15, and serves as a sign that this is a show that could continue on into next season. For a time, we wondered whether three crime dramas on NBC could all co-exist, but remember this: With “Revolution” likely getting canceled and with “Parenthood” dropping this season, these are two hours that the network may be willing to replace sooner. Also, “Law & Order: SVU” is a decade and a half old. Eventually, we see that show ending, and these Chicago shows more or less taking over as the crime anchors for the network so long as they don’t suffer any sort of further dips. Their big priority may just be finding a way to get to syndication, since that happening could ultimately be an enormous boom to them. People could find them at all hours and then check them out live.

There are plans moving forward this season to have a “Chicago PD” crossover event, where stars from this show will collide with “Law & Order: SVU” for a case. Now that there are three Dick Wolf series on the air, the prolific show creator has more opportunities than ever before to try and figure out how to cross stories from one show to the other.
