Rosie O’Donnell returning to ‘The View’ years after infamous stint
Obviously Rosie O’Donnell and “The View” are not done just yet. If you remember back to many years ago, then odds are you recall one of the most headline-grabbing-for-the-wrong-reasons sort of marriages in the history if the ABC franchise. Rosie joined the show as a way to bring a new perspective, but it ended up only instead getting all sorts of criticism and sparking many feuds (with Donald Trump being the most high-profile one).
Rosie’s appearance on the February 7 edition of the show (per Variety) would be the first for her since that 2006-07 season that created so many of those headlines. As for why she is coming back now, it seems to be a win-win situation all around. For Rosie, this is an opportunity to promote her appearance on ABC Family’s “The Fosters,” and also send off Barbara Walters, who is retiring at the end of the year. Meanwhile, it’s a nice little ratings draw for the morning talk show during sweeps.
In a statement to the publication, Walters made it clear that she personally is very happy to see Rosie making another visit on the program:
“I have great affection for Rosie and we have remained in contact throughout the years. I am happy to welcome her back to the program. She is always a lively and engaging guest and a part of the show’s successful history.”
This appearance comes at a time when there is all sorts of buzz over the future of “The View” as a show. There have been many rumors as of late regarding whether or not “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison could end up being the first male regular on the show, since there will have to be a replacement for Barbara eventually. (Plus, the show has never really replaced one of the vacancies occupied from when Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck each left.)
