‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10: Patrick Dempsey, Ellem Pompeo score new deals

Pompeo -There is no longer a reason to worry about either Patrick Dempsey or Ellen Pompeo the rest of the way on “Grey’s Anatomy.” While there was constant speculation regarding whether or not the two were going to be back for an 11th season throughout the fall, sources have confirmed that both actors have actually signed on to do two more years of the long-running ABC juggernaut.

The first thing to note here is that this is by no means a guarantee that there is a renewal coming up for the show, but come on: It’s pretty obvious. This is still one of ABC’s three highest-rated dramas, and it performs well internationally and in DVR viewing. Given the decline of “Agents of SHIELD,” it may be #2 behind only “Scandal” by the end of this season.

We know that Sandra Oh is leaving the show in the spring, and now the only waiting game comes in seeing whether or not there are going to be any other actors who want to join her. Hopefully, the rest of the cast will make their decision about their future soon, mostly so that there are no situations where we are left waiting until the very last minute to find out just what happens next. In order for that to happen, though, the rest of the cast in limbo will have to decide probably before the start of March, since scripts have to be written in advance.

“Grey’s Anatomy” will return to ABC for the remainder of its season on Thursday, March 9, and is set to air consecutively every week until we do reach the end.
